Spennymoor Pupils Get Creative for New Showhome Designs
North East homebuilder Dunelm Homes is on a mission to unearth the region’s finest young design talent by putting their newest development showhome into the hands of pupils from North Park Primary School in Spennymoor.
The Year 5 and 6 pupils are being given the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with a chance to design the bedroom of Dunelm Homes newest showhome at the Thinford Gardens development in Spennymoor – due to open in Spring 2013.
To kick-start the design project, the pupils aged 9 to 11 took part in a special two hour workshop organised by Dunelm Homes to learn more about what their bedroom design must include and what additional extras they could add to make each room really stand out.
Pupils were encouraged to be as creative as possible, with ideas ranging from Jacuzzis next to the bed to wardrobes with secret passwords and a television that produced sweets!
Sylvia Oldham, sales advisor from Dunelm Homes said: “It’s certainly interesting to get insight from the younger generation on what they feel is missing from current trends in bedroom design. Unfortunately, I don’t quite think we’ll be able to install a Jacuzzi in the children’s bedroom of our new showhome but we were excited to see and hear some of the fantastic ideas the pupils were coming up with during our design workshop.
“We are confident that with the energy and enthusiasm of the pupils at North Park Primary School and the quality construction skills of the Dunelm Homes team we will have a showhome to showcase the creativity and inspiration of all the pupils involved.”
The pupils will be designing the main children’s bedroom at the Thinford Gardens development showhome by developing a selection of design mood boards with their ideas. Each of the ideas will be presented to Dunelm Homes to give pupils the opportunity to work hand in hand with an interior designer to turn their ideas into a reality.
Patricia Monk (Head Teacher) from North Park Primary said: “This is a project which helps to partner education with local business in an exciting and interesting way and broaden our pupils’ understanding of not only the different types of careers available in design and construction, but also the real process behind the building of new homes in the area.
“The pupils came up with some wonderful ideas during the initial workshop and are now hard at work creating their own bedroom which no doubt stretches the realms of imagination. Thinford Gardens is very close to our school so it is nice for our pupils to be directly involved in what is happening in the local community and we can’t wait to see the final bedroom design unveiled at the Dunelm Homes showhome in Spring. “
