Gentoo’s Double Success at 2013 Building Excellence Awards

People, Planet and Property company Gentoo is celebrating after winning two awards at the eighth annual Building Excellence Awards 2013, organised by Sunderland City Council.

The awards go to the most innovative construction projects completed by individuals and organisations over the last year, and recognise outstanding and innovative standards of construction and design.

Gentoo were successful in two categories including: Best Social Housing Development for Centrepoint, Dundas Street, Sunderland; and Best Community Building for Grace House Hospice, Sunderland.

Centrepoint and Grace House were nominated due to the attention to detail paid by the architect and contractor; the positive approach adopted with the design and construction processes; the first class working relationship with the Building Control team; and the overall quality of the construction.

Allan Thompson, Managing Director of Gentoo Construction said: “We are delighted to have won two of the regional Building Excellence Awards. These awards are recognition for delivering a high standard of quality on our building projects and this double success is a great tribute to our project delivery teams.”

Sunderland City Council Cabinet Secretary, Councillor Mel Speding said: “We have always been keen to promote building excellence and innovation within our city, and these awards are recognition of all those who demonstrate both commitment and imagination to achieve the highest possible standards.

“All of the winners in each of the award categories provide great examples of the high quality of work being carried out in Sunderland and across the region, and what is being achieved as a result of the strong partnership that we have helped create and develop between architects, contractors, developers and the City Council.

The award winners at this year’s presentation will go forward to the Local Authority Building Excellence regional awards ceremony to be held in June 2013 with winners of any categories there put forward for the national awards to be held later this year in London.
