Twitter hour for green businesses shortlisted for Award
A Twitter networking hour, set up to help green businesses connect and collaborate, has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Climate Week Awards.
ConnectFriday, which is run jointly by ClimateNE and Daisy Green Media & Events, takes place on Twitter every Friday morning at 10am and provides a way for green businesses make contact with each other and identifying ways to work together in the climate resilient and low carbon economy.
The Twitter hour was set up after the success of a number of ‘real-life’ ConnectFriday networking events held in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, initially to help businesses in the North East meet and do business.
Nicola Alexander, Daisy Green Media & Events, said: “we’re thrilled that ConnectFriday has been recognised in this year’s Climate Week Awards. We only launched it in October 2012 and it has proven exceptionally popular. It already has nearly 1,700 followers and, on average, reaches over a quarter of a million people globally each week.”
ConnectFriday helps businesses connect and find ways to work together to combat climate change and identify and exploit sound commercial opportunities.
Jennifer Atkinson, ClimateNE, said: “ConnectFriday networking has been a really effective. There have already been a number of notable successes including two North East firms who met through ConnectFriday, identified shared interests and goals and now are collaborating on the development of a range of LED lighting projects.”
To join the networking, businesses just need to follow @ConnectFriday and use the hashtag #ConnectFriday.
ConnectFriday is one of four projects working to combat climate change that have been shortlisted in the Best Community Initiative category. The winners of the Climate Week Awards will be announced on Monday 4 March in London.
