Business Club helps secure contracts for Teesside firms

BILLINGHAM water treatment company Biochemica is joining forces with manufacturing firm Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) thanks to the Hartlepool Business Breakfast Club.

Biochemica has been awarded a year-long contract to provide Legionella monitoring services for Heerema’s domestic water systems, as well as implement processes to clean and disinfect water storage tanks with the use of specialist chemicals.

The contract was secured after one of the company’s business development managers attended the monthly networking event and was introduced to a representative from Heerema.

The bespoke services will involve one of Biochemica’s highly skilled Service Chemists undertaking the necessary solutions to bring its water systems in line with regulations, and visit the site monthly to ensure that Heerema is continuing to meet with compliance.

Managing Director David Ruddy said: “Heerema is a massive company so it is great for us to be taken on by them to provide water treatment services at their Hartlepool facility. It also gives us the opportunity to secure further work with them at some of their other sites across the UK so potentially it’s a big win for us.

“The fact it came about from us attending the Hartlepool Business Breakfast Club is testament to how important a networking event it is. It’s not only a great way for local companies to join forces but also to keep up to date with what’s happening in the town and which big companies are looking to sub-contract out some of their services.”

The Hartlepool Business Breakfast Club aims to bring large companies and organisations together with small local companies who may be able to assist in their supply chain needs.

The next event is Thursday March 7 at The Innovation Centre in Hartlepool when The Sports Domes’ Alan Cruikshanks will be talking about the new leisure facilities on the old Mayfair site on Tees Road and what is needed from local companies to continue the project.

Samantha Lee, Director at Publicity Seekers, which organises the Hartlepool Business Breakfast Club, said: “The purpose of the Business Breakfast Club is to introduce large successful companies to their potential supply chain in SMEs, so it’s great that Biochemica has secured work with Heerema after attending one of our events. It really emphasises just how beneficial they can be for companies in the area.

“We hope to see another good turn-out at our next event on the 7th of March which should be a really interesting talk. Going forward there’s still a lot of activity around the Dome and Alan tells us he is keen to use local companies.”

Previous speakers have included North East Entrepreneur of the Year Bill Scott, CEO of Wilton Engineering; Alan Lloyd of Heerema; JDR Cables’ Director Peter Sayles and Stephen Catchpole of Tees Valley Unlimited.

The Hartlepool Business Breakfast Club takes place on Thursday, March 7, from 7.30am to 9am in Hub 1 of The Innovation Centre, Queens Meadow. As well as the speaker there will be breakfast and networking. It is open to all small business owners but places are limited.
