Is Academy conversion right for your school?

Samuel Phillips Law Firm is inviting school leaders and governors to attend a round-table event to understand whether academy conversion is appropriate for their school.

‘Is Academy Conversion right for you?’ is designed to enable schools to ask the questions that matter to them, in a balanced and frank two hour event. It takes place at Lumley Castle, County Durham, from 3pm to 5pm on Thursday, 7th March, 2013.

Attendees will hear from John Edmunds, Team Leader of the Yorkshire and Humber Academy Converter Division of the Department for Education, as well as management from Holley Park Academy in Washington, a local school with first-hand experience of the conversion process. Both speakers will answer any questions attendees may have. Also, after the event there will be an informal afternoon tea where attendees can speak further with speakers, fellow attendees and event representatives.

Glenda Wood, Business Manager for Holley Park Academy in Washington, commented: “Before the resolution to apply for Academy status was passed by our Governing Body, we invested a lot of time in attending seminars and meetings, and reading extensive documentation. Our primary aim was to preserve the high standards achieved at our school, prioritising academic achievements.

“We’re very happy to share our experiences with other schools considering converting to Academy status. There are many factors which will influence the decision, and different ways of proceeding if you do decide to go ahead.”
