Merseyside innovation projects secure £7m EDRF fund

Research and innovation projects in Merseyside could benefit from £7m of loans and grants after a fresh call was released for applications to the North West European Regional Development Fund (EDRF).

The Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) asked for proposals on Wednesday under Priority 2 of its investment framework.

Funding comes alongside news of a £19m supply chain programme for manufacturers in the aerospace and automotive sectors, supported by Liverpool City Region and three LEPs in the Midlands.

Commenting on the £7m call for research and innovation schemes, Alan Welby, executive director of the Liverpool City Region LEP, said: “This call is great news for businesses involved in innovation in the region.

“The programme will provide support to the region’s small and medium-sized business to make full use of the regional knowledge base in universities, research institutes and private sector firms in order to improve their productivity.”
