Barratt site manager wins industry award

Paul Ebbs, site manager for major national housebuilder Barratt, has won a prestigious national award.

Paul was announced as the winner of the Project Manager category in the Duke of Gloucester’s Young Achievers Scheme during a ceremony in London last night, where he received his award and met the Duke himself.

These awards recognise exceptional young professionals in the construction industry, with the aim of promoting working in construction to young people from all walks of life.

Paul said, “I’m so thrilled, and I really can’t believe I won! It was a real honour to be in a room with so many other people making an impact through their role in the construction industry, and to share the whole event with my wife and parents made it extra special.

“There are so many opportunities for young people in construction, and my own apprenticeship put me on a great career path. I hope this award shows other young people just how much can be achieved and encourages them to find out more.”

Managing director Ian Wallace said, “I am absolutely delighted to see Paul announced as the winner of this award and I’m not surprised he was chosen, he’s a real shining example of excellence. He had some strong competition and all those shortlisted have achieved great things in their careers. The awards ceremony was a wonderful event that really celebrated the young talent we have in the industry.

“It’s National Apprenticeship Week this week and Paul began his career as an apprentice seven years ago, so it’s very apt for him to have been given this award now. Young people really are the future of our business and at Barratt we are committed to supporting them in developing their skills and expertise.”

Paul began his career with Barratt as an apprentice at the age of 16, and in only seven years has reached the position of site manager, where he currently leads a £20m regeneration development of 237 homes in Eastleigh.

Paul has excelled at every stage of his career so far, winning numerous company awards, achieving NVQ, BTEC, HNC and degree level qualifications in construction, and in recent years he has also acted as a mentor to young apprentices joining the company.

A local man, Paul has always lived in and around the Southampton area, and worked as a site manager on the Hinkler Place regeneration project in the city, as well as at developments in Winchester and Chichester. Paul now lives with his family in a Barratt home near to the site he manages in Eastleigh.

Paul will receive a unique package of support through the Trust and development opportunities through a one year mentoring programme, to enable them to make an even greater impact in their future careers.
