Liverpool apprenticeship programme recruits first 50 trainees
A Liverpool trainee and apprenticeship scheme has recruited its first 50 young people, after it was launched by Liverpool Direct in partnership with the City Council.
Apprentices will be given the tools to develop new skills and build their knowledge through hands-on experience that hopes to prepare them for the labour market.
Those enrolled on the Apprenticeship and Trainee Programme will also gain a skills-based work qualification on completion of the scheme.
Liverpool Direct and Liverpool City Council have been further involved in offering work opportunities to young people on the programme across their different areas including social services, IT, benefits and web services.
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, and Ged Fitzgerald, chief executive of Liverpool City Council, met with apprentices as part of National Apprenticeship Week (11th-15th March).
The Mayor said: “Giving our young people an opportunity to learn, develop skills and shine with an employer is so important.
“It is fantastic that, through our joint venture partnership with Liverpool Direct Limited, we have been able to offer so many places on the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Scheme for young people to develop their skills and gain valuable experience.
“As a council, we have had tremendous success since 2010 in working with both the public and private sector to give hundreds of young people the chance to prove themselves and become the star employees of the future.
“The scheme sets an example to the businesses and organisations of the city, promoting the benefits of providing good quality opportunities for young people.”
