Manchester energy provider becomes fourth largest in UK
A Manchester-based energy provider has become the fourth largest gas supplier to businesses in the UK, according to figures from Cornwall Energy.
Gazprom Energy provides electricity and gas to over 11,000 businesses in the UK, which it procures on the open market in competition with the “Big 6” energy suppliers.
With big-name clients including David Lloyd leisure centres, Sheffield Forgemasters and Chelsea Football Club, the company has seen growth every year since its launch in 2006.
They achieved this despite a 14% fall in gas consumption between UK businesses last year.
Cornwall Energy pitted the firm in fourth place after they collected data across twelve months up to the end of December 2012 from a range of sources, including DECC, Ofgem and the Competition Commission.
Robert Buckley, director at Cornwall Energy, commented: “DECC’s latest statistics show that in the last four years gas consumption by business and the public sector has shrunk 14 per cent as energy efficiency and the recession have taken hold.
“Gazprom Energy has grown its share of the business gas market steadily and consistently in the last five years. The company is now firmly established as a major player in supplying gas to British businesses.”
Gazprom Energy’s global managing director, Jon Feingold, added: “Despite increased competition from independent suppliers and rising third party charges, we’ve significantly increased our market share through an absolute focus on our brand values - transparency, relevancy and simply making it easy for our customers to do business.
“As the market continues to tighten, energy providers need to work harder to differentiate themselves and this is why we have invested significantly in our people development and customer service offering.
“Simple things like building personal relationships with our customers and recognising their individual needs mean we can offer more tailored support with a focus on contracts that are designed to suit the customer’s needs - but with the stability and assurance that comes from having one of the world’s largest energy companies behind us.
“Breaking the 10 per cent volume barrier is a significant milestone in our seven year history in the UK, as we continue to grow in a market which has long been dominated by the so-called ‘Big 6’ energy companies.”
