Warwickshire Law Society appoints vice-president

The region’s society for legal professionals has appointed one of the youngest vice-presidents in its history.

Rachel Gwynne from Wright Hassall solicitors has succeeded Liz Talbot, from Bonell & Co as vice-president of the Warwickshire Law Society after Talbot stepped up to take on the role of president.

Rachel, 34, first became involved with the society, which has close to 500 members and has been in existence for more than 100 years, when she was invited to become deputy vice-president last year.

This followed her work in reviving the Young Lawyers Group as chair after qualifying in January 2006 and building a strong reputation in the profession.

The society does not hold complete records containing the ages of all its previous personnel but those they do have, dating back to 1915 show Rachel to be the youngest to hold the position of vice-president.

Rachel’s primary responsibility will be to support the new president in representing the society’s members on a regional and national basis and making sure their views are heard.

Rachel said: “This is a real honour. I am delighted to have made the step-up to vice-president of the Warwickshire Law Society. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the organisation.

“I am particularly looking forward to working with Liz in encouraging wider involvement amongst members, particularly in creating stronger ties across the region’s legal profession among all age groups from those just entering the profession to senior partners.

“Liz has a lot of exciting plans for the year ahead from fundraising and social events to training courses and seminars and I am looking forward to supporting her whilst getting to know more people within the profession.

“It will certainly be great preparation for my progression into the role of president next year.”

Liz replaces Dawn Mobbs from Band Hatton as the Warwickshire Law Society’s president for 2013/14.

Liz said: “I am really looking forward to working with Rachel in the forthcoming year.

“The region’s legal community faces many challenges and I’m sure Rachel and I will make a great and effective team in ensuring the society continues to provide its members with the highest level of support and representation.”
