New team appointed for major agricultural show
A new chairman and secretary team have been appointed as preparations get underway for Coventry and Warwickshire’s biggest one day agricultural show.
The Kenilworth Show is returning to the show grounds opposite Stoneleigh Park on Saturday, June 1.
The annual show, which is organised by the Kenilworth and District Agricultural Society (KADAS) and is now in its 70th year, attracts around 10,000 people from across the country every year.
John Rouse, a private client lawyer at Leamington-based law firm Wright Hassall, has been appointed chairman for this year’s show.
John lives just two miles from the showground in Finham and has been a member of KADAS for around six years.
The 42-year-old said: “I’m delighted to be chairing the Kenilworth Show committee and am looking forward to helping make this year’s event on June 1 a great success.
“I first got involved with the show and KADAS through my role supporting clients in the rural industry with tax planning and legal advice.
“I’ve developed some great connections and friendships since becoming involved and have really enjoyed being part of the Kenilworth Show.
“The event is now firmly established as one of the biggest agricultural events in the Midlands, and it is a great way for the rural community to be in touch with the general public and for people to get an insight into where their food comes from and have fun at the same time.”
Lizz Clarke, a beef nutritionist from Harborough Magna near Rugby, has been appointed KADAS secretary.
The 40-year-old has helped organise the livestock section at the Kenilworth Show for four years and assisted previous secretary Penny Poulter in the run-up to the 2012 show.
Lizz said: “I’m really enjoying the new responsibility and although there is a lot of hard work ahead of us, I’m looking forward to doing all I can to make the 70th show a great success.
“Despite us being a bit unlucky with the weather last year the day went really well and we’re growing the show once again to make it bigger and better than ever for all the family.”
Lizz is being supported by assistant-secretary Cheryl Brookes who has 15 years’ experience in organising agricultural events. The 46-year-old, who lives in Eastern Green, has organised the catering at the show for around nine years.
The Kenilworth Show will host all the usual agricultural and equestrian classes and feature a wide range of homecraft competitions and trade stands. New attractions and various activities for all the family will be announced in the build-up to the show.
