Angel investor backs cutting-edge production company
Investment company Middleton Enterprises is bringing a taste of Hollywood to Tyneside after signing a major deal with the British production company behind the latest Tim Roth film.
The company, which is led by North-East based entrepreneur and angel investor Jeremy Middleton, has invested an undisclosed sum in Corona Pictures, which is set to release The Liability, featuring Reservoir Dogs star Roth.
The independent production firm, which is led by acclaimed producer Richard Johns who has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including John Malkovich and Nicholas Cage, is also behind gritty British horror movie Truth or Dare, which opened to rave reviews last year.
Richard’s business partner is Rupert Jermyn, an experienced City mergers and acquisitions expert who is also a former Managing Director of Marlin Entertainment. Having turned his hand to film and television production, Rupert has gone on to win a Special Jury Mention prize at the Las Palmas Film Festival for his short film, Nemisis, and produced both The Liability, and Truth or Dare, for Corona.
The production firm has recently expanded into television and is already in talks with a major American television distributor regarding a seven-year option on adapting a popular series of novels for the small screen.
Jeremy, who also sits on the board of the North East LEP, said: “I’ve always been very passionate about film, and I am hugely excited to invest in this fantastic production company.
“I am sure that Corona has the potential to be the British film and television industry’s next big thing. They are already producing top-quality cinema from right here in the UK, and are beginning to break into the television market as well. I can see extremely good things ahead for this company.”
Richard said: “We are very happy to sign this investment deal with Middleton Enterprises, which is allowing us to expand and further help outstanding new writing and directing talent get their first big breaks in the film industry.
“We already have a very strong library of films, and have some extremely exciting upcoming projects, so it’s a great time for Middleton Enterprises to get on board.”
