Preston redevelopment site bought by Morrisons

Supermarket giant Morrisons has bought a 12 acre plot of land in Preston, which is expected to see major re-development for the UK’s newest city.

Urban regeneration specialist Centros is advising on the scheme after outline planning consent was secured in autumn 2011 for a mixed-use development on the site.

Centros said a 71,000 sq ft food store could be built on the land as well as a petrol station and a housing development around the adjacent school.

Preston-based property firm Robert Pinkus & Co acted as local development consultants for Centros, working on behalf of Wm Morrisons.

The company announced that Morrisons have started building on the site, and they expect the scheme to be completed later in 2013.

Robert Pinkus, partner at the company, said: “We are very pleased to have been able to facilitate the early redevelopment of the derelict site which otherwise would have remained an eyesore in a high profile location, and at the same time create much needed employment for the area.”
