Easter Egg Hunt provides Coventry business boost
Coventry families were given the chance to taste sweet success after a two-day city centre Easter Egg Hunt.
The 2013 Coventry Easter Egg Hunt was organised by Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) and saw families compete to win a wide-range of prizes including a family holiday up to a value of £1,000 courtesy of Thomas Cook and Flexible Trips
Other prizes included free ice skating lessons from Planet Ice, tickets to the Belgrade Theatre and a free family meal at the Blue Bistro in Spon Street. There will also be prizes provided by Debenhams, Nandos, Subway, Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry Transport Museum, Puregym and the CLC bookshop.
The hunt saw the city centre divided into eight colour-coded zones. Participants need to find colour-coded and numbered eggs hidden in shops in four of the zones in order to enter the draw for the other prizes.
The first 1,000 entrants also received a free chocolate bunny or chick donated by West Orchards by presenting their completed entry card to be stamped by staff at the Thornton’s store.
The event aimed to increase footfall in Coventry city centre and provide a welcome boost to trade during Easter weekend.
Peter Dunkley, chairman of Coventry BID, said: “This is a fantastic initiative and I know from speaking to city centre businesses that they were very supportive of the event.
“There were some really fantastic prizes on offer and we are grateful for the support of all the sponsors and for the prizes they have donated.”
Cllr Lynnette Kelly, Coventry City Council cabinet member for city development, said: “This is exactly the type of city centre event we need more of, not only does it engage the community, but it also provides a welcome boost to city centre traders during this time of economic uncertainty.”
Completed entry cards stamped at Thornton’s should be posted in the Coventry 2013 Easter Egg Hunt post box located in Thomas Cook, Smithford Way, to be entered into the draw for all of the prizes.
There will then be a draw in Broadgate on Saturday, April 6 to announce the winners and runners-up. For more information on the 2013 Coventry Easter Egg Hunt visit www.visitcoventry.co.uk.
