Golf-nutrition brand 'Sweetspot' teams up with food manufacturer
Golf-nutrition brand ‘Sweetspot’ has landed a hole in one to team up with a leading food manufacturer.
Specialising in food products for the golf market, Sweetspot is sold in over 330 golf shops across the country.
Founding company, NewLeaf has now teamed up with Goldenfry Foods to further expand the Sweetspot brand.
The range, created by Stocksfield company NewLeaf, includes flavoured slow-release stamina bars and quick-boost beans, to help golfers sustain their energy.
Wetherby-based company, Goldenfry is and is known for making gravy products for UK supermarkets, as well as many other own branded products.
The family business, which started life as a single independent fish and chip shop in Wetherby in the 1960s, has now grown to employ 200 people at a modern purpose-built factory in the town.
The joint venture has been established to help promote and distribute Sweetspot throughout the golfing world.
Peter Turrill, managing director of Goldenfry Foods, said: “We recognise the tremendous potential of the Sweetspot brand, and we are really looking forward to being part of working with Rob and the team to build the brand further.”
NewLeaf business has previously struck deals with internationally-renowned retailers including Harvey Nichols for other products in its portfolio.
It has also sponsored major golf events such as the Europro Tour, which is broadcast on Sky TV.
Law firm Sintons, handled the legal work on the joint venture which forms the latest step in NewLeaf managing director Rob Mullen’s ambition to make Sweetspot the number one name in golf nutrition.
He said: “Golf as a sport has transformed in the past ten years - professional golfers are now athletes, dedicated to fitness and nutrition so they can sustain top performance throughout their whole round of golf,” he said.
“As such, the golf products market needed to change, and Sweetspot is at the forefront of that. We have made huge progress in only our first year, during which Sweetspot has seen significant growth in the UK market, and myself and the NewLeaf team are very excited about the potential of the partnership with Goldenfry.
“They are a very significant name in the UK’s food market, and we are pleased to have their support and weight behind us in making Sweetspot the leading global brand in golf nutrition.”
