Scholarship boost for promising Civil Engineer
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has provided a regional student with the opportunity to develop a burgeoning career as an engineer, by awarding him a highly respected scholarship.
Ashley Raine, from Bishop Auckland, has worked for the past 12 months as an Engineer’s Assistant at regional engineering service Balfour Beatty, and has made such an impact he was prompted to apply for ICE’s illustrious scheme.
The QUEST Technician Scholarship provides support to students with technical and practical engineering experience, who, like Ashley, are studying courses which could lead to a professional qualification as an Engineering Technician.
The application process for the award required information about candidates’ education, employment and qualifications, references from employers and a personal statement. In support of his application, Ashley’s referee highlighted his ability to apply himself to all aspects of civil engineering.
Penny Marshall, director of ICE North East, said: “This QUEST Technician Scholarship attracts applicants of the highest calibre. It should be an enormous boost for Ashley’s career within the industry and it is a pleasure to be able to present this well-respected award to him.
“We wish Ashley every success with his studies and look forward to seeing his development within the industry.”
