Ex-Forum for the Future man leads Future Cities

The new Future Cities Catapult has appointed former Christian Aid and Forum for the Future man, Peter Madden, as its chief executive.

Mr Madden has previously worked as head of Policy at the Environment Agency and Christian Aid; and as ministerial adviser to the Government.

His role will be to help businesses develop products and services for cities, across health, transport, energy and public safety.

The Government hope the Catapult will inspire UK companies to take advantage of a global market for integrated city systems, estimated to be worth £200bn a year by 2030.

Mr Madden said: “Working with the Catapult is a fantastic opportunity. We’re living in an increasingly urban world. By helping UK companies innovate new products and services for the cities of the future, we can both benefit millions of city-dwellers and give a significant boost to our economy. The Future Cities catapult will give UK businesses a real cutting-edge in this area.”

Sir David King, Chairman of the Future Cities Catapult said: “Peter’s pedigree on issues relating to sustainability is second to none. He will bring exceptional knowledge and expertise in establishing the Future Cities Catapult as a world leading innovation centre. “

“I am personally very excited about Peter becoming Chief Executive and look forward to working with him closely in realising the vision for the Catapult.”

The Future Cities Catapult is part of a wider network of centres, including Transport Systems, Connected Digital Economy and Satellite Applications, managed by the Technology Strategy Board.
