Manchester developers start work on Plymouth regeneration

Manchester-based regeneration firm, Muse Developments, have started work on the next major phase of a quayside scheme at Millbay, Plymouth.

The project will be part of the wider redevelopment of the area, where ground levels are now being raised along the East Quay, using recycled materials dredged from Millbay’s inner harbour and the original quay walls which were restored in 2010.

Foundations are being put in place to start the next round of development for 102 homes on East Quay, which Muse Developments expects to complete in late 2014.

The project has raised investment from the English Cities Fund, which is a joint-venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General Property and the Homes & Communities Agency.

Developers will also begin to lay out and open the first section of a planned boulevard, aimed at linking Plymouth city centre with the waterfront.

Work is also continuing on the building of Cargo 2, opposite the award winning Cargo development.

Buyers have already put in purchase orders for properties at Cargo 2, which will be available early this summer.

Cargo 2 will overlook the new 171-berth King Point Marina, which is currently under construction by Sutton Harbour Holdings and is also due to complete this summer.

Duncan Cumberland, development director for ECf, said: “It’s a very exciting time for the regeneration project with significant progress being made on several fronts at Millbay which is creating a real sense of momentum around the scheme.”
