Quality mark times two for renewable energy specialist

A renewable energy company is celebrating after becoming one of only a handful of companies to clinch a top industry standard across a range of green technologies.

Midlands-based 7 Energy has undergone rigorous assessments to achieve the stamp of approval for not only its wood pellet boiler installations, but also for the solar thermal systems it has designed and installed.

The company is now formally accredited by the UK’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme, demonstrating that 7 Energy has achieved the highest quality standards for biomass and solar thermal. It achieved MCS solar PV accreditation in 2011.

Managing director of 7 Energy, Martin Dowley said: “These latest two accreditations really set us apart as being a renewable energy specialist, one of only a handful across the region which can offer a range of green technologies to customers.

“We wanted to be able to demonstrate that we’re not just installers of boilers, or solar PV panels, but that we provide a choice of systems which are all designed and installed to exactly the same high standard.”

The company, which has its headquarters in Shrewsbury and as Welshpool showroom, recently completed its first dual installation of a solar PV system and a wood pellet boiler at a guesthouse in south Shropshire.

Mr Dowley said: “The owners are generating their own electricity through the PV and receiving the Feed-in-Tariff. They are also receiving the Renewable Heat Incentive because their heat and hot water is provided by the biomass wood pellet boiler, and actually the annual incentive pays them more than the annual cost of the fuel.

“When it can be better for the customer to install complementary renewable systems, it was very important that we were able to show we are at the top of our game no matter whether a customer wanted one, two, or multiple installations.”

“The MCS accreditation, which we already held for solar PV, shows to consumers that we are able to consistently install to the highest quality every time. It is also important for our customers who wish to claim the FiT or the RHI, as you cannot access these unless you have MCS accredited products which have been installed by an MCS-accredited company.”

The installer certification involves assessing the supply, design, installation, and commissioning of renewable microgeneration technologies. All the systems which 7 Energy uses in its installations are also certified by MCS where required.
