Roxtec secure deal with Western Power Distribution
Cable and pipe seal manufacturer, Roxtec, has confirmed a new deal with one of the UK’s largest electricity providers, Western Power Distribution (WPD).
Bury-based Roxtec will supply its safety seals to a collection of electricity substations in South West England, operated by WPD.
The electricity provider currently supplies to over 7.7m people across the Midlands, South Wales and the South West of England,
Graham O’Hare, managing director of the Swedish owned Roxtec said they are seeing sustained growth in the substation section.
He commented: “Western Power Distribution is highly regarded in the energy sector and this project is a great show case for our products.
“On this project we have been used to seal cable entry points into the substation to protect the substation from the risk of flooding.
“Roxtec’s triplex seals have been designed and tested for use with single core cables, commonly used in the energy sector.
“Substations are a key growth market for us and we have developed a range of solutions to improve on site safety and operations. Our depth of knowledge and experience means our cable seals are becoming the industry standard.”
Roxtec has previously supplied its H3 trefoil seal for the project to seal high voltage cables at the point they enter the substation, and Mr O’Hare said the firm is supplying 132 kV and 33 kV substations where electricity is process from the national grid.
Mr O’Hare added: “It is very important on this project to provide seals that are strong enough to support the weight of the HV cables to maintain an adequate and even seal around the cables.
“With this project it is vital the substation is protected from flooding. Water ingress is hazardous for substations as even a small amount of water in a cable trench can increase the relative humidity in the air. This in turn increases the likelihood of partial discharge and ultimately a costly power outage.”
Roxtec is currently working with a number of companies in power transmission, distribution and renewables to support new build and existing substations.
Last year the firm reached sales over £3.7m and has a global turnover of €122m in 70 overseas markets.
