West Lancashire Council appoint contractor for refurbishment project

West Lancashire Borough Council has appointed its contractor partner for a major housing modernisation scheme.

Altrincham-based refurbishment business Lovell won the five-year, £4m contract to replace council house kitchens across West Lancashire, with 700 to be replaced in the first year of work.

Refurbishment will start in April, after the company secured the council contract through a competitive tendering process.

As well as improving council houses in the county, Lovell will engage with West Lancashire Construction Academy to create new opportunities for apprentices as part of the project.

Nigel Yates, Lovell’s regional director, commented: “We’re delighted to have been appointed to this housing refurbishment scheme which will deliver real improvements for West Lancashire residents, as well as creating opportunities for local apprentices to gain valuable site-based experience on the project.”

Bob Livermore, West Lancashire Borough Council’s assistant director of Housing and Regeneration, added: “We are investing £65 million into our housing stock over the next five years and installing new kitchens is a key part of our improvements programme.

“Tenants will reap the benefits of this programme for years to come. Many tenants have told us that installing new kitchens should be one of our top priorities.

“They will be able to talk to designers about how they want their kitchen to look including the colour of units, work tops and wall tiles. This scheme will give real choice to customers.”
