Coventry company sets sights on expansion

A leading development engineering company, which is based in Coventry, is on target to create another 100 skilled jobs over the next three years to aid its expansion.

Penso, which works with some of the world’s most prestigious vehicle brands, already employs 140 staff and wants to grow that figure to help service its expanding client base.

Louise Bennett, the chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, paid a visit to the firm’s headquarters on the Middlemarch Industrial Estate and was hugely impressed by the company.

The Chamber has recently announced a partnership with EEF, MAS and UKTI to further support the manufacturing and engineering sector across the city and the county.

And Louise said Penso is a great example of the high-end work taking place in the region.

She said: “We do have a fantastic manufacturing and engineering base across Coventry and Warwickshire and there are few better examples of that than Penso.

“Much of the company’s work is quite secretive because they are working niche projects for world renowned brands.

“So to get to see a little bit of what happens behind the scenes was very exciting and I am sure Penso will be catching the attention of those in Westminster when they are looking for great examples of what UK businesses can do.”

Penso’s rapid expansion has been helped by funding through the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI).

Michael Collins, sales director of Penso, said: “This initiative was introduced to us in 2012 and it has had amazing results – we are two years ahead of where we wanted to be because of this support.

“You do hear some Government schemes being knocked but this has brought major benefits to our business in terms of our expansion and that has to be good news for the economy of Coventry and Warwickshire.

“We are now looking to expand even further in the next few years to cement our position as a leading development engineering company – not only in this region, but in the UK and across Europe.”

He added: “We were delighted to welcome Louise and the Chamber to our base in the city and it is great to hear that they are enhancing their manufacturing and engineering network as this is going to be a key sector for the region in the future.”
