North West secures 13 Queen's Awards for Enterprise

North West businesses have scooped up a total of 13 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in this year’s round of winners.

The prestigious award, which was established in 1966, is granted to businesses who show outstanding achievements in their field, and has a specific focus on international trade, innovation and sustainable development.

Businesses in the North West won awards in three of the five categories, including 11 for International Trade, one for Enterprise Promotion, and another Lifetime Achievement award for Enterprise Promotion.

Winners across Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire, Cumbria and Merseyside received the accolade, as well as an invitation to a royal reception at Buckingham Palace.

Queen’s Award winners are visited by a Royal representative and presented with a crystal bowl to mark their achievement.

They can also use the Queen’s Award emblem as part of their advertising, marketing and packaging for five years after receiving the honour.

Winners from Manchester included make-up retailer, I Love Cosmetics, lubricant producer, Metalube, LED company, Projection Lighting, outdoor retailer, Regatta, and engineering materials firm, TENMAT.

Lancashire recipients included manufacturers Fort Vale Engineering, and communications business Rinicom while those in Cheshire included spectrometer specialist, Isoprime and materials company Stirling Lloyd Polychem.

Cumbrian winners included mailroom equipment providers, Totalpost Services and veterinary clinical firm Triveritas, while Lady Cunningham, who is an enterprise development coach, won an award her work in enterprise promotion.

Ms Claire Dove MBE, DL from Merseyside was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with social enterprise across Liverpool, the North West region and the country as a whole.

Business and Energy Minister, Michael Fallon MP, commented: “The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are one of the most internationally-recognised and sought after awards that a UK business can achieve. They give companies prestige, an edge overseas and a well deserved boost.

“The Queen’s Awards highlight our strong entrepreneurial streak and the excellent businesses we have up and down the country who are growing, creating jobs, making a valuable contribution to the economy and helping us to compete in the global race. I applaud each and every one of the winners.”

152 businesses won Queen’s Award across the whole country, with 25% of applicants receiving the award.

Out of the winning companies, 14 have 10 employees or less, while 133 have fewer than 250 people in their workforce.
