Volvo returns to Derby
Volvo is set to make a return to Derby after a three-year absence as Vertu Motors PLC opens its state-of-the-art dealership following a substantial investment.
The outlet, at Sir Frank Whittle Road near Derby County Cricket Ground, is Vertu’s first Volvo dealership, and was acquired last year as part of a deal with the Co-operative Motor Group.
Volvo Cars Derby has made a number of appointments following a recruitment drive in the run-up to the launch including a team of sales executives, technicians, retail hosts and administrators. The dealership also plans to appoint an apprentice technician as part of an on-going programme to invest in the city’s young people.
The site was acquired last year as one of several acquisitions in the Midlands by Vertu Motors PLC, which is the seventh largest motor retailer in the UK.
Trading under Volvo Cars Derby, the new dealership will offer customers great deals on a large range of new cars and high quality used vehicles.
Since acquiring the former motor dealership site last year, Vertu has made a significant investment at the site, totally refurbishing and partly rebuilding the dealership to create a single story building with extensive customer parking.
The 900m sq building will sell new and quality used Volvo cars, with nine of the latest Volvo models on display in the showroom, including the critically-acclaimed premium hatchback, the V40, and the innovative Volvo V60 plug-in Hybrid, as well as more than 20 approved used Volvo cars on the forecourt.
The site will also house a dedicated Volvo workshop, with a one-hour service promise, which means the dealership will turn around a service in one hour, with customers assigned one point of contact and one dedicated person looking after their car.
Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu Motors PLC, said: “As our first step into the premium sector, representing Volvo in Derby is a significant milestone for Vertu Motors, culminating six years of building the business since we established it in 2007.
“We’re delighted to team up with Volvo to bring this premium brand back to the city after a three-year hiatus, and we have appointed some high-calibre professionals from in and around Derby. There’s no doubt Derby has provided us with a talented and driven team which will make the business a success and enable us to deliver excellent customer service to all our customers.”
