Law firm helps sale of historic pub

SOLICITORS from Archers Law returned to a well-known restaurant to taste the fruits of their labour after handling the sale of an historic pub.

The Haynes Arms on the A19 at Kirkby Sigston in Northallerton was recently snapped up Peter McCoy, former owner of The Cleveland Tontine and of the Golden Lion in Osmotherley.

He brought on board Archers Law to help push through the sale of the 300-year-old pub and with the help of Partner, Chris Todd and Associate, David Adams, the deal was completed and the pub is now in the hands of Peter from the renowned McCoy family.

Peter said: “As soon as the pub came onto the market I knew I wanted to get it as the location is perfect. It’s close to the other places I’ve owned in the past which have done well and for me the location of it is paramount.

“So I put the offer in and it was accepted. It didn’t actually take too long from me making the offer to the previous owners to completion and us being able to reopen it and I think that’s largely in part to Archers Law. They were a great help and made sure the process was completed as smoothly as possible.”

The Haynes Arms is being given a gradual make over by Peter which has included the addition of an extra cosy log fire. There is also a new look menu which promotes the use of simple, locally sourced ingredients cooked in a homemade style with dishes including fresh mussel soup, seabass with red pimento beurre blanc and roasted rack of lamb.

Chris Todd, Partner at Archers Law, said: “Our role in the purchase of the pub was to act on behalf of Peter McCoy to make sure all of the documentation and finer details of the transfer were covered, including matters such as the lease, the liquor licence, the transfer of the goodwill of the business and the moving across of the employees.

“We have an impressive track record of supporting clients within the hospitality sector and while the process can be complex, our expertise ensures it progresses as smoothly and seamlessly as it can.”
