39% of Internet Connections have no Security

Agile Communications have recently been to a number of areas within the North East to complete wireless security scans and have found a substantial number of wireless access points within the region that are open to attack from hackers. Primarily down to the number of incorrectly and insecurely configured routers and access points, businesses and home users are unlikely to even be aware of this.

Agile took the decision to ensure their customers in the region would face security issues after some recent spates of Internet hacking within the UK.

The scanning took place through the North East of England with around 350 locations tested in a 2 month period, ranging from Carlisle to Huddersfield.

A staggering 39% of Routers scanned had no security on them at all; an alarmingly high figure. It does not take much effort or knowledge to connect to a network and can be very simple to do. This could allow people to potentially connect to business or home networks and access private and confidential items.

Director of Agile Communications Gavin Scotchbrook said, “The amount of unprotected internet connections is startling. Worst of all, people do not realise the possible pitfalls if unwanted Internet users cannot to their network”.

Gavin went on to add, “We want our customers to have the knowledge their connections will be safe and that their private documents will not be accessible for anyone to hack”.

Agile are offering all of their North East customers a free Internet Security check on their current system to ensure everything is still as it should be

“Nobody wants their Internet connection hacked in too so we like to offer customers peace of mind and confidence that they will not be subject to this from undesirables”, concluded Gavin.
