Clever advice fuels accountancy firm?s expansion

The Yorkshire office of law firm Dickinson Dees has advised on an investment deal which will allow an online accountancy firm to expand.

Private investment company Milestone Partners has invested a significant, but undisclosed, sum of money in Clever Accounts, an online accountancy firm based at Newby Hall, near Ripon.

Clever Accounts provides a complete accountancy and tax service to hundreds of small businesses throughout the UK, including sole traders, limited companies, contractors and freelancers.

Matthew Smith, an associate in the corporate team at the Leeds office of Dickinson Dees, which advised Milestone Partners, said: “We were delighted to assist Milestone Partners with all the legal work needed for this important deal.

“Milestone had identified Clever Accounts as a company with tremendous potential and wanted to be involved with its future success.”

Mr Smith added: “The investment will enable Clever Accounts to move on to the next stage of its development, expanding the scope of its work, growing its customer base and increasing its staffing levels.

“The investment is a resounding endorsement of a North Yorkshire success story and it was a privilege to be involved.”

Chris Mollan of Clever Accounts, which was advised by Hethertons solicitors in York, said: “This investment is a massive vote of confidence in Clever Accounts and will enable us to expand.

“We are planning to increase the levels of service and functionality available to our clients, substantially expand our customer base and increase our staffing levels accordingly.”

Clever Accounts, which was founded in 2008, combines access to a free online accounting system, overseen by a dedicated accountant, allowing clients to manage their finances easily and keep a close eye on them at all times, with support and advice only a phone call or email away.

The company takes care of all annual reporting, tax compliance, VAT returns, and payroll, for a variety of small businesses and individuals, as well as providing ongoing tax advice and business support.
