HS2 compensation deadline extended for North West

The Government has extended the HS2 consultation period for property owners who will be affected by the link between Birmingham and Manchester.

Responses to the Exceptional Hardship Scheme (EHS), which aims to compensate homeowners and businesses, were originally in for Monday 29th April, but the deadline has been extended to 20th May.

Consultees pushed the Government to provide further information to better inform their decision on HS2 plans, and while the Government said they did not deem it to be necessary they recognised the request.

The second phase of HS2 from Birmingham to Manchester will include a link with the West Coast Mainline near Crewe, while the mainline will continue north in a tunnel under the town.

Phase 2 of HS2 will then continue past Warrington and up to another connection with the West Coast Mainline south of Wigan.

Affected residents and businesses can receive compensation through the EHS scheme and take part in the consultation up to the revised deadline in May.

The Government said it will also take this time to clarify certain aspects of its consultation document, while those who have already submitted responses can resubmit in light of the further information.
