Solid charity support from Darlington-based Stone

A prominent Darlington business is supporting a local rugby tournament being held in May in memory of a little boy who died following a long battle with leukaemia.

Specialist maintenance company, Stone Technical Services based on Kellaw Road in the town, is sponsoring the Henry Valks Memorial Cup Rugby Tournament which celebrates the life of the Middleton-St-George toddler who died in 2009, aged just three, having fought the disease since being a baby.

The rugby tournament, which has become an annual event, has been a huge success for the last two years, raising thousands of pounds for the charity, Children with Cancer UK.

As well as making a donation to the charity, Stone is supplying a set of rugby shirts for one of the teams and providing the marketing support for the event itself.

The tournament will be held on Saturday May 11th at Darlington Rugby Club’s Blackwell Meadows ground, from noon, with two pools of five teams each with squads of 15 players, both men and women. Each player is asked to donate £5 to take part with all funds raised going to the charity.

As well as the rugby, the family fun day will also include raffles, an auction, face painting, inflatable sumo wrestling, a bouncy castle, cake stands, a bar and a barbecue

MD of Stone Technical Services, Dave Stone, said: “Henry’s story is so sad and, since his untimely passing, his family have been working so hard to support Children with Cancer UK to raise awareness about this terrible disease. Everyone at Stone is really pleased to be involved with the tournament which will hopefully bring the local community together to raise much-needed funds.”

The Henry Valks Memorial Cup Rugby Tournament takes place on Saturday May 11th, starting at noon, at Darlington Rugby Football Club, Blackwell Meadows, Grange Rd, Darlington, DL1 5NR
