Toffee Factory brings The Big M to Ouseburn

After a hugely successful launch event last year, Toffee Factory hope to entice you back to The Late Shows in May. You’re invited to join them as ISIS Arts presents the premiere of their stunning new touring programme ‘On the Precipice’ in The Big M, their inflatable mobile exhibition venue. Curated by critically acclaimed digital artist, Kelly Richardson - who created last year’s ‘Mariner 9’ at Whitley Bay’s Spanish City - the immersive film installations explore our relationship towards contemporary landscape and the natural environment and features work by seven internationally renowned artists.

Lisa Tolan for Creative Space Management said: “We love being a part of The Late Shows and had a great time in 2012 welcoming 2000 people to Toffee Factory for the first time. There was an amazing buzz around Ouseburn for the whole weekend and having seen the packed programme for this year we expect it to be busier than ever. We are delighted to be able to bring The Big M to Ouseburn, this will be a very special event and your chance to catch ‘On the Precipice’ in Newcastle before it hits the road as part of the Festival of the North East.”

The Big M is open 19.00 - 23.00 on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May and is a free event. And for those who fancy grabbing some food during your Late Shows cultural crawl, local vendors will be selling cinema-style snacks – Archers will be here with special toffee-flavoured Jersey Ice Cream, The Fat Hippo will be here with gourmet hot dogs, and other stalls will offer fresh popcorn and candy floss. Ouseburn Coffee Company will be brewing their finest and Teasy Does It will keep us in tea!

Sharon Bailey Co Director ISIS Arts said: “We’re thrilled to be launching ‘On The Precipice’ as part of this year’s Late Shows at Toffee Factory. At ISIS Arts we are passionate about bringing the work of outstanding international artists to our region and we have collaborated with Kelly Richardson to devise a programme, which we hope will enthral, captivate and intrigue.”

After the premiere at Toffee Factory, ‘On the Precipice’ will tour in The Big M, visiting a wide range of regional venues, Saltwell Park (Gateshead), The Links (Whitley Bay), mima (Middlesborough Institute for Modern Art), Woodhorn Museum & Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival.

The Late Shows (www.lateshows.co.uk) weekend offers a free after-hours tour around Newcastle and Gateshead’s museums, galleries and cultural venues on a Friday and Saturday night. It forms part of Museums at Night with events across the country, with hundreds of participating venues, of which Newcastle/ Gateshead’s The Late Shows is the largest.
