It's a Galliford Try

Cramlington Rockets’ new season will take off in style following the donation of a new kit by construction specialist Galliford Try.

The donation will help the Rockets, the most northerly rugby league junior set-up in England, with its running costs and will enable the club to continue to inspire and engage young people in Northumberland.

Jeffrey Ball, U12 Head Coach, said “It is fantastic that Galliford Try has supplied us with a new kit. The money saved will help to keep us training and will go towards supporting club activities.

“Cramlington Rockets is as much about developing rounded individuals as it is producing good rugby players and we hold a number of events and trips throughout the year to give our young people experiences that they might not ordinarily have the opportunity to enjoy.”

Foster Innes, Operations Director at Galliford Try said: “We know how much pride the young players at Cramlington Rockets take in wearing the shirt and we are delighted to support that. Like the club, we are working in Northumberland to help build communities – though in our case through construction of new homes and facilities.”

The club was established in 2000 as Killingworth Rockets, but relocation and a name change came in 2009 in response to a huge demand for rugby league in the area.

Since then it has grown from strength to strength and now has over 100 players across eight junior teams as well as an open age men’s team. The Rockets recently entered a partnership with Super League side Bradford Bulls and has also seen members of the boys teams selected to train with the Huddersfield Giants’ academy and a player selected for the England U16’s Girls Futures Squad.

A recent link up with the new rugby academy at Astley High School should provide players with an opportunity to improve their educational prospects alongside their game on the rugby field. Added Jeff: “Intelligent Players, Intelligent People” we call it. We want our young players to be good role models for rugby league and for Northumberland and to aspire to be the best they can be.”

Galliford Try is building new homes at Hodgson’s Road and the former Tynedale Middle school site in Blyth.
