More business visits to the UK

The number of business visits to the UK has grown 7% in the first quarter of 2013, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Conversely the number of holiday visits fell by 4%, and visits abroad by UK residents was down by 1% over the same period, compared with last year. The increase in business visits built on last year’s growth.

There was a trend in shorter trips abroad, as visits to North America were down 11%, and other countries by 6%, whereas visits to Europe were up 1%.

Overall the number of visits to the UK by overseas residents in March 2013 was 2.2 million. Over the 12 months to March, visits from North America fell 2%.

Data was compiled from interviews conducted on the International Passenger Survey (IPS) with overseas residents as they leave the UK. Visits abroad by UK residents were established in a similar fashion.
