This week's North East appointments

A round up of the region’s latest appointments.

The Sage Gateshead has recruited Amy Smith as conference and event sales manager in its bid to increase commercial revenue.

Amy has previously worked in sales at Accent Magazines and Benchmark Communications in Newcastle, and started her career at Media 10 in London, working on the Grand Designs Live event.

Anna Stacy, head of conference and events at The Sage Gateshead, said: “Conferences and events are a key revenue driver for us and we have a very flexible space that can cater for all manner of businesses according to their needs. As such, it makes sense that we exploit this and use the profits to reinvest in the organisation and the communities we work within.”

Business law firm, DWF, has grown its Real Estate group in the North East with the appointment of four new partners and eight lawyers from Eversheds, to its Newcastle office.

The hire includes former Eversheds partners Gavin Jackson, Adam Heather and Adrian Stanley, the latter being Newcastle real estate head and Newcastle senior partner respectively.

Regional head of Real Estate at DWF, Ben Done, said: “This is another significant step in DWF’s strategy for growth. We already have strong ties in the region, but the addition of the team from Eversheds will further strengthen our offering for clients and our presence in the North East.”

Gordon Brown Law Firm has appointed a new partner, Neil Large, to head up the new corporate services department at the practice’s offices in Newcastle city centre.

Neil commented: “Gordon Brown is a modern, young, vibrant, forward thinking firm with a lot of ambition to expand and consolidate its position on Tyneside and I’m really looking forward to helping the partners achieve that.

“There is definitely a market for another medium sized progressive commercial law practice in Newcastle to be a credible alternative to the other established larger commercial law firms on Tyneside.”

Ward Hadaway associate solicitor, Bill Goodwin, has become one of only three Registered Trade Mark Attorneys who are listed for the whole of Tyne and Wear.

Bill has worked as a solicitor at Ward Hadaway’s Intellectual Property team since 2004 and gained the qualification after two years of study.

Jesmond-based Mincoffs solicitors has appointed Ryan Bannon as partner and head of the Commercial Property department.

Ryan has held positions at other North East law firms, having trained at Gouldens in the City of London.

This appointment is part of a recruitment drive by Mincoffs, including the additions of Lyn Rutherford and Emily Frankish to their Family Law team in September 2012 and Stewart Irvine as Head of Contentious Services in February 2013.

Haskel Europe has appointed Mark Adams as engineering manager at its Sunderland headquarters.

Mark heads a team of eight engineers, six based in the UK and two in France, dealing with customers including BAE, Cameron Engineering and Air Liquide.

He said: “This is a unique role – it embraces much more than many other engineering manager posts, and I’ve got a great team. Haskel’s reputation of creating customised solutions means we’ll try to do any project we’re presented with, and we haven’t failed yet.”

One of the country’s leading experts on organisational leadership and patient care in the NHS has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland.

Dr Maxine Craig is currently Head of Organisation Development for the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and works to ensure the organisation’s workforce is adaptable.

Dr Paul Smith, Associate Dean for Research at the University of Sunderland’s Faculty of Business and Law, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Dr Craig has agreed to join the Faculty as a Visiting Professor. Her vast professional experience of leading change and innovation in the NHS combined with her passion for cultural openness and patient care place her at the centre of some of the biggest organisational changes ever seen in the public sphere.”

Maersk Training in Newcastle has appointed Stuart Cameron as managing director of the 40-strong business.

Stuart comes from the position of global sales and marketing for Romax technology and has 20 years’ experience within renewables, construction and industrial support services.

He said: “The Maersk name speaks for itself in terms of both credibility and reputation, so this is clearly a great opportunity which I am excited to be a part of.”

A construction lawyer who started his career in the building profession has joined law firm Sintons.

Alex Rayner has moved from a specialist construction law firm in London to join North East-based Sintons, further strengthening their construction and engineering team.

He said: “I wanted to move to a law firm with strength and stability, and somewhere with long-term plans for growth in place and a strong commitment to the clients they serve. This was a very big move for me, geographically and career wise, and I am very pleased I decided to join Sintons.”
