Retail therapy for North East engineering firm
A North East based firm has been awarded a major contract for a UK ‘super regional’ retail site as part of its on-going revival to get its brand back on track.
Pensher Skytech, a specialist engineering firm based in Cramlington, designs and manufactures doors, windows and curtain wall to withstand the effects of blast, ballistic, fire and forced entry. Two years ago, however, Pensher Security Doors Ltd (as it was formally known) went into administration.
This was resolved quickly as the Intellectual Property Rights were acquired by Renown Group in the summer of 2011, and the company has been on the road to recovery ever since.
As part of Renown, Pensher Skytech has heavily focussed on its blast mitigation capabilities and has installed products in high profile locations such as Whitehall and MOD testing sites, as well as for the MET Police, regional police forces and data centres.
However, this latest contract award represents by far the most unique and challenging contract to date. It involves the design, manufacture and delivery of a ‘key critical’ blast and ballistic resistant guardhouse, able to resist over 1,000kg of explosives at a close standoff. The guardhouse also has a BR7 ballistic rating to ensure the absolute safety of those using the facility.
The project, which cannot be named for security reasons, will take place at a large retail site in the UK, known for its millions of visitors per year. The contract is part of a major Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) scheme at the site that is seeing millions of pounds invested to increase the safety of staff and visitors alike.
Simon Scott, Sales and Contracts Manager, highlighted the significance of the contract award. “This award is the icing on the cake for us. It puts all our strengths in one basket, and because of the excellent facilities we now have we can deliver this project on time and budget for a very prestigious client.”
“I’m delighted that Renown Group placed its faith in what Pensher Skytech has to offer, particularly as we have effectively had to start again. We are certainly moving in the right direction and we are already on track for an excellent 2013.”
The contract also introduces the Series 9 ‘Fortress’ to Pensher Skytech’s product portfolio, shortly following the newly developed Series 8 ‘TITAN’ Curtain Wall System as part of Pensher Skytech’s on-going new product development.
