Innov8 Disposal open new facility
A fast growing North East waste disposal company has officially opened its newest facility.
Innov8 Disposal in Thornaby is the region’s fastest growing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment disposal services company.
Its latest facility was officially opened by Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton on Tees Borough Council.
He was supported by Mr Stephen Catchpole, Managing Director of Tees Valley Unlimited (TVU), the Local Enterprise Partnership and over 60 representatives of companies that employ Innov8 Disposal.
Cllr Cook said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to officially open this new facility by the Directors of Innov8 Disposal, as it demonstrates the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to flourish in the Borough.
“Innov8 has ambitious plans to grow by seeking out and securing new business –in turn this will create new jobs and new apprenticeships which only serve to strengthen our area; we will continue to support their drive and ambition for their business and for the area.
“The company was established in Stockton just over two years ago and I am particularly pleased that the Directors have decided to remain in the Borough as the business continues to grow, providing much needed new jobs for the local community.”
During its first year of trading, the company generated turnover of £109k. In year 2, this turnover grew to £320k and in year 3 (the current year) it is forecast to grow to £550k.
Stephen Catchpole of TVU said: “Reducing the volume of waste going to landfill or to third world countries is a crucial component of the drive to improve the UK’s environmental performance, and Innov8 Disposal is playing a major role in helping the North East to meet its waste reduction obligations.
“We wish the company every success as it strives to develop its business here in the Tees Valley and across the UK.”
In late March 2013, Innov8 Disposal began the process of transferring its operations from a number of units in Mary Street, Stockton on Tees to a single 5000 sq ft facility at 1 Yorkway, Mandale Industrial Estate, Thornaby, where it now employs 15 people, including 4 apprentices.
Innov8 Disposal’s Managing Director, Louise McAlpine, said: “2012 was a fantastic year for Innov8 Disposal, with revenue increasing by almost 300%, resulting in the creation of a further four full-time jobs.
“Moving to much larger premises in Thornaby provides us with the space needed to realise our future growth plans.
“We now have three dedicated collection units available to help organisations dispose of their WEEE waste, some of which we collect free of charge.
“Our plan is to expand our customer base both within the region and across the UK. This will help us to create further employment opportunities, particularly for apprentices.”
The success of this new business has also been recognised both locally and nationally. The company won the Environment category in the Tees Valley Best New Business Awards in 2011 and 2012 and it has been nominated as a finalist in the National Recycling Awards for a second year running. It also holds a Bronze Zero Waste Award.
