Kenilworth Show to feature new countryside area

The largest one day agricultural show in Coventry and Warwickshire is going to the dogs – and the organisers could not be more delighted.

The Kenilworth Show, which attracts around 10,000 people every year, is to feature a countryside sport section for the first time when it takes place at Stoneleigh on Saturday, June 1.

Have-a-go entertainment such as clay pigeon shooting, rifle shooting, archery and dog scurry challenges will all be featured for the first time when the event returns to showgrounds opposite Stoneleigh Park.

The new area is being run with the support of the British Association for Shooting & Conservation (BASC) and will be a good introduction to field sports for some of the 10,000 visitors expected to flock to the 70th annual show.

Dog retrieve challenges will also be taking place with the public encouraged to bring their best friends along and have a go at novice and advanced fun challenges!

Will Moreton, from show organisers Kenilworth & District Agricultural Society (KADAS) is running the countryside area, which is being sponsored by Leamington law firm Wright Hassall and Guy Salmon Land Rover.

He said: “The showground lends itself really well to a new area like this which will be a fantastic taster into field sports.

“We hope lots of people come and have a go at introductions to shooting and archery sessions and also bring their dogs along and let them get involved in the fun too!”

Charlotte Bird, from Guy Salmon Land Rover Coventry and Stratford upon Avon which is part of the Sytner Group, added: “The countryside area is a great addition to the Kenilworth Show. We’re looking forward to having a strong presence at the show which will include us offering test drives during the day.”

A free bus service to and from Kenilworth town centre to the Kenilworth Show site is being run throughout the day.

KADAS have teamed up again with Ridleys Coaches to offer an hourly service to and from Stoneleigh Park.

The first pick up will take place from the clock tower on Warwick Road by Abbey End at 9am with trips running to and from the show site throughout the day. The last bus back to the town from the showgrounds will be at 5.30pm.
