Sheffield finance director wins major FD award
Marie Cooper, financial director of Sheffield-based President Engineering Group, the parent company for Bestobell Valves and Conflow, has won the Young FD of the Year category in the national FD’s Excellence Awards for 2013.
As reported in Bdaily last month, Marie was shortlisted from amongst hundreds of nominations across the country. She has now been announced the winner at a glittering ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in London’s Grosvenor Square.
Commenting on her achievement, Marie said: “I am truly shocked, surprised and delighted to win this prestigious title. It has been a fantastic experience to meet so many leading figures in the world of finance and to really raise the profile of our company on a national basis.
“The awards ceremony in London was a fantastic night and it was an honour to be chosen amongst so many exceptional candidates for this title.”
Judges for the FD’s Excellence Awards said: “Marie is amazing’ and has really taken her role by the horns. She is passionate but also modest and has worked her way up through the organisation. She has taken on every challenge that she has faced in a positive, feisty and commercial way. She is a great role model for other young FDs.”
President Engineering Group Ltd (PEGL) was established in 2010 through a management buyout from the Flow Group involving the Conflow and Bestobell Valves businesses.
These were purchased by a Sheffield-based management team consisting of Marie, Mark Henley (managing director), John Waddington (operations director).
The company has recently acquired Bretby Gammatech, a coal quality monitoring company which specialises in ash monitoring.
Bretby Gammatech has pioneered technology to produce an innovative and safe method of measuring the ash content of coal which does not involve radiation.
