A Grand Prix prize

One lucky employee at a Tyneside engineering firm, has bagged two tickets to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Express Engineering, who at one time produced bespoke engineered parts for the Lotus F1 team, auctioned the tickets as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations.

Colin Storey, 61, and his wife Natalie, 46, will join the 300,000 plus visitors that will attend the Northamptonshire circuit on the Grand Prix weekend.

Said Colin, who works as a buyer at Express said: “I’m delighted to have won the tickets and I’m sure it will be a great day out. I’m looking forward to the whole experience and will be hoping that Lewis Hamilton or Jensen Button will finish on top of the podium.“

Nigel Davison, Managing Director at Express Engineering said: “We have held a series of fun events and competitions to commemorate our 40th year in business and having a history of working with a Formula One team in the past, we thought that this would be an ideal prize

“I hope that Colin and his wife have a fantastic day at the track.“

Express Engineering, which supplies precision engineering services to various sectors including those of aerospace, sub sea oil and gas production, defence and medical, has come along way since its genesis.

Keith Thompson remortgaged his home in 1973 to launch the business, which turned over around £30,000 in its first year, taking on three members of staff. More recently a £10 million expansion drive has boosted turnover to over £30million and has seen the company’s manufacturing floor space and staff levels double over the last five years. It now employs 300 people.

The Team Valley based organisation has planned a number of initiatives to celebrate 40 years in business including a company race day, brewing a commemorative anniversary ale and organising various other competitions and staff activities.
