New jobs to be created by discount store

400 new jobs are to be created in the North West of England by budget retailer Aldi.

New shops and a new distribution centre will be launched as Aldi move its regional head office from Stakehill Industrial Estate, near Middleton, to a purpose-built, 41,000 sq m site near Bolton.

It will create the distribution centre at the Cutacre development, near junction four of the M61.

The move is expected to be complete in early 2016 and in the five years after opening, Aldi expect to create an additional 100 jobs at the distribution centre and 300 jobs in new stores across the north west.

Regional managing director Giles Hurley said: “Aldi has been based in Stakehill for more than 20 years and everyone who has worked here during that time has played a significant part in the continued growth of the company both here in the north west and across the UK.

“This growth has meant that the current premises are no longer fit for purpose and, by moving, we will have not only bigger and better facilities for staff but also the added space to sustain our success.

“The state-of-the-art new facilities at Bolton will enable us to continue expanding and support the growing number of stores across the region.”

Aldi currently employs 300 people at Stakehill. All staff will be offered the same jobs at the new site.

It has 90 north west shops.
