Ryder's 60th exhibition London opening

Ryder Architecture celebrated 60 years of leading architectural design with its exhibition opening at Building Centre in London last week.

Up to 80 guests from the design, development and construction world, including Carillion, Cundalls, Laing O’Rourke and Merchant Place Developments, all attended.

The exhibition remains at the venue until 27 June coinciding with the London Festival of Architecture, with events and discussions planned during the busy month. It then continues its tour at Liverpool’s Mann Island in October, finishing the year in Newcastle, where the company was founded six decades ago.

Formed in 1953 as Ryder and Yates and now known simply as Ryder, this multi-award winning practice boasts a varied output of buildings for education, healthcare, research, residential and retail and leisure, which over a period of 60 years has ensured its position as a leading UK architectural practice.

The impressive 16 metre long exhibition touches on the heritage, values, ethos and design expertise of the company, consistently carried through an impressive body of work over the years.

Ryder senior partner Peter Buchan said: “This is a momentous occasion which provides us with a unique opportunity, to underline a point in our history where we can celebrate great achievement, not just in architecture, but in our values and ethos as a company, demonstrated by becoming a Sunday Times top 100 company this year and winning the AJ100 Best Place to Work in the North East & Yorkshire award.”

Ryder’s 60th anniversary celebrations also sees it support eight national charities this year including CRASH, the construction and property industry’s charity for homeless people.

Emma Brophy, CRASH’s marketing manager said “It was great to see the exhibition and the legacy of Ryder. Clearly buildings are not the only thing the company is about though and for them to do so much in their local communities is really commendable. We’re delighted they are supporting us this year and it was great to meet the team and hear about their fundraising efforts.”
