BDO saves 69 jobs as Brimar splits up

Manchester military electronics firm, Brimar, has been sold and 69 jobs saved, as confirmed by business advisors, BDO.

The company, which was in business for around 90 years, entered administration in November last year.

BDO said Brimar will be split up with the sale of different parts of the business, while 20 people will lose their jobs despite 69 jobs being saved.

Dermot Power, BDO LLP business restructuring partner, and joint administrator of Brimar, said: “We are pleased to announce that we have completed the sale of the business of Brimar Limited, with a sale of the vision system display business to Image Precision Limited (IPL) on 3 May 2013 and the Cathode Ray Tube and Long Range Thermal Imaging business to BAE Display Technologies Limited (BAE) on 3 June 2013.

“A total of 69 of the 89 jobs have been saved, with 56 employees transferring to BAE and 13 employees to IPL.”

Brimar serviced the film and TV industry alongside its other divisions, with staff in UK and two sites in the U.S. where electronic displays for tanks, aircraft and helicopters were made.
