Communisis announce job losses in Manchester

London-headquartered communications and direct mail business, Communisis, has announced its Trafford Wharf site in Manchester will close as part of a “planned re-structuring”.

The Northern base will close by the end of 2013, with approximately 90 jobs in jeopardy as a result.

Communisis said once the Manchester site is closed, cheque production will move to Leeds, while a considerable amount of the firm’s direct mail operations will be outsourced to a third party.

The business added that it will retain its specialist, higher margin direct mail in Leeds with its other production operations.

Changes announced for the Leeds base will create room for Communisis’ services to move over from Manchester, while other transactional communications will also move to Leeds to support operations in Liverpool.

Andy Blundell, chief executive of Communisis, said: “These plans are aligned with the Group’s strategy to reduce its exposure to the more commoditised sector of the print market by focusing on higher margin specialist production and to improve margins by reducing costs and improving capacity utilisation.”
