EDM welcomes Malaysian trade delegates to Manchester
Manchester-based aviation training firm, EDM Ltd. hosted a VIP Malaysian trade delegation at its Newton Heath factory this week.
The company, which makes training hardware for commercial aviation and the defence sector, welcomed chief executives from Malaysian investment agencies to their Manchester base.
Representatives from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) North West and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) also joined the tour, which went round the factory where EDM’s newest cabin crew training device, ’SEPTRE“ was demonstrated.
EDM has a global client base, with new business contracts recently announced with China Eastern Airlines, Philippine Airlines and Garuda Indonesia Airlines.
The company is also involved in several high-tech simulator projects including BAE Systems Hawk and F-35 Lightning II programme, which is the biggest defence project in the word.
Tony Bermingham, EDM’s managing director, commented: “EDM is delighted to welcome our guests from Malaysia on this important trade mission (to Manchester).
“We look forward to learning about the Malaysia Investment Development Authority’s
objectives to encourage business collaboration and ventures between the UK and Malaysia.
“EDM has a truly global focus and a strong presence in Asia and we are always looking to grow our business in these expanding markets.”
Philomena Chen, head of Asia Pacific development for UKTI North West, added: “Commercial ties between the UK and Malaysia are very strong.
“UK exports to Malaysia in 2011 were valued at £2.25 billion, making it the UK’s second largest export market in South East Asia after Singapore. The UK is also one of the largest investors in Malaysia.
“UKTI North West has worked with EDM for many years, helping the company develop business in South East Asia, and we also have strong ties with UKTI Malaysia and MIDA.
“This visit demonstrates the strong relationship between the two markets and I am delighted that the delegation is able to visit EDM, a great example of an advanced engineering company in the North West which also has a strong presence in Asia.”
