Citadel invests in multidisciplinary future
A well-known supplier to the security, leisure and fencing sectors is repositioning itself for growth with major investment in staff and technology and the acquisition of a complementary business.
Building on its core business of manufacturing high specification security fencing, multi-use sports areas and gateway solutions, Citadel Security Products Ltd has re-branded its group of companies under the Citadel Industries name.
The business has already earned itself a top reputation for working with customers both in the UK and internationally to produce bespoke solutions and has now extended into structural glass and architectural handrail systems, with the purchase of a Sheffield-based specialist manufacturer.
The company also has its Citadel Environmental Solutions division, which works in a range of specialist fields, including anaerobic digestion, water treatment and effluent clean-up.
Citadel Industries has invested £300,000 in the last 12 months on expansion and investment in people and technology, as it orients itself more towards the design and manufacture of complete solutions for customers, rather than focusing mainly on supplying its set product range.
Managing director, Paul Green, explained: “We are well known for delivering great products and service in a number of areas, but we have perhaps not been the best at pulling all of the threads together. We have now embarked on a major programme that has seen the business units more thoroughly aligned, alongside expansion and a commitment to boosting the skills of our staff in a number of areas.
“We have invested significantly in our computer aided design capabilities, both in terms of staff recruitment and training and from the point of view of the technology, both software and hardware. The sum of the parts of Citadel Industries are tremendously strong and while some areas of the UK economy seem to be languishing somewhat, particularly around manufacturing, we are forging ahead, determined to meet our goals.”
Part of the focus for the new-look Citadel Industries has been on sharing best practice in customer services across the workforce.
With the ability to manufacture steel and glass balustrade and handrail systems, Citadel is now offering a complete design and installation service for building accessibility, including access ramps fully completed to the demands of the Disability Discrimination Act. The company is also manufacturing specialist wheelchairs for assisting people with limited mobility into swimming pools.
Mr Green added: “Citadel Industries has, perhaps rather quietly, developed into a multifaceted business, built on very complementary areas of expertise. We are now harnessing the key strengths of our units to drive the company ahead and ensure sure our people are at the heart of that push.”
