Theatre and law combine in mock trial event
Harrogate law firm, Raworths and the Harrogate Theatre combined to stage a mock trial to demystify the Court process for businesses. The event, which had an audience of over 120, took place on the main stage and the cast, which included four Raworths staff and local actor, Richard Galloway, acted out the trial of a commercial dispute. There were also tips for local businesses on how to avoid Court proceedings in the first place and how to be fully prepared if Court proves to be the only solution.
Led by partner and head of the Dispute Resolution team, Jonathan Mortimer, the proceedings were both light-hearted and informative and included the cross-examination of witnesses, summing up and the judgement. Other cast members were partner and head of Employment, Deborah Boylan, senior associate Matt Hill and Ervin Shakaj, trainee chartered legal executive.
Raworths is a member of the new Harrogate Theatre Business Club and this is the first occasion the Theatre and Raworths have worked together.
Ross MacLaverty of Baker Tilly Tax and Accounting Limited who attended the event said: “The event was flawless and both informative and entertaining. The venue, timing, content, and performance was first class.” Local businesses from around Harrogate and as far afield as South Yorkshire attended and also amongst the audience were students from Harrogate College and Ripon Grammar School.
Jonathan Mortimer of Raworths said, “We are delighted that this rather unusual event generated so much interest and hope that we will be able to use this wonderful theatre for more business events in the future.”
