Tankers line up for Manchester International Festival

When it comes to serving fresh draught beer to the 250,000 festival-goers who are set to attend the forthcoming Manchester International Festival, Thwaites has provided event organisers with an innovative solution.

Revellers wanting to enjoy Thwaites’ extensive range of German lagers, along with its famous Kingstone Press cider, will now be able to enjoy a refreshing pint as though it has been served straight from the pub.

Ten tanks, each containing 500 litres of world lagers, including Warsteiner and Kaltenberg Royal, have been delivered by the North West brewer to its very own beer tent in Albert Square, which has been aptly renamed Festival Square, for the duration of the event.

The beer, which has come directly from The Star brewery in Blackburn, was piped into specially refrigerated tanks on waiting dray lorries. On arrival in Manchester, they were carefully lifted into place ready for thirsty visitors to enjoy, as they take in the sights and sounds of the festival, which begins on Thursday (4 July).

As soon as tanks start to run dry, new supplies will be delivered in giant refrigerated bags. The super tankers are specially designed to make sure that the beer stays chilled and in optimum condition at all times, and are part of Thwaites’ pledge to make sure every festival-goer can enjoy a perfect pint!

Head brewer at Thwaites, Ian Bearpark, oversaw the tanking. Ian said: “It’s an innovative process and everything went exactly to plan. The important thing for beer lovers is that the beer will keep its freshly brewed flavour because it has been stored in perfect conditions.

“We know we can cater for all festivals and outdoor events, whatever the size. Not only do we have the brands, but also the right dispensing options – it’s one less thing for any organiser to worry about!”
