Badminton star backed by developer
A budding badminton star from Thornaby who hopes to represent Britain in the Olympics one day has received support from housing developer Keepmoat Homes.
Jack Westerburg is currently competing nationally in various tournaments across the country and hopes that the £500 donated by Keepmoat will help him reach the next round in the competition.
The 17-year-old approached the company for sponsorship after he moved into a Keepmoat home on the Mandale Park development two years ago with his father.
“I am hoping to really progress this season and this sponsorship will help me along the way,” said Jack who is currently ranked 11th in the country for his age group.
Training for several hours every day, on and off court, Jack has also been balancing his sporting commitments with the Art, History, English and Computer Science AS Levels he is taking at Conyers Sixth Form in Yarm.
Jack added: “It is incredibly hard to balance training and college work, but my trainer thinks I have what it takes to go all of the way to the top. This money will help me pay for almost a month’s worth of coaching, which will prepare me for the challenging tournaments of next season.”
Ian Prescott, Land & Partnerships Director for Keepmoat, said: “We met Jack when he successfully applied for a sportsmanship fund we had set up with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and other partners. When we discovered that he actually lives in a new Keepmoat home at Mandale Park, we were keen to offer additional help. His enthusiasm and talent were immediately obvious.”
Keepmoat has just released a new phase of two and three bedroom homes at its Mandale Park development, offering a range of different styles ideal for first time buyers, young professionals and families looking to get a foot on the property ladder.
Under the government’s Help to Buy scheme, prices range from £81,596 for a two bedroom property to £111,996 for a three bedroom home.
The Help to Buy scheme offers buyers who have saved a 5% deposit the chance to take advantage of a five-year interest free loan covering 20% of the value of the property. The remaining 75% of the property’s value will be funded through a mortgage, which Keepmoat can help buyers to arrange.
