Dozens line up to audition for Hunslet job-creation
Dozens of potential recruits auditioned for a coveted place on a pioneering Foundation which is investing in 12-week training boot camps for potential employees – and paying them for the duration of the training.
BE Fuel Cards - the driving force behind The Bayford Foundation which is based in Hunslet – was impressed with the wealth of potential of those who signed up to the colourful auditions with a difference at The Hunslet Club.
In the first stage of the selection process for the Foundation, participants threw themselves into interactive workshops on listening and selling skills and relished the opportunity to progress to the next stage.
Believed to be a UK first, the Foundation will invest up to £5,000 to put each recruit through the 12-week programmes and pay them a salary for the course duration. Those who pass will receive a university recognised qualification from the University of Derby Corporate (Part of the University of Derby) and join the BE Fuel Cards team on a minimum £16k annual salary.
Said Fawwad Atiq from Huddersfield who attended the auditions: “It’s brilliant how the Foundation programme gives people a chance to ‘earn as they learn’. This is a unique course and the auditions have been interesting and fun. I’ve not heard of anything like this before.”
Added Elley Aston from Beeston who heard about the auditions from her local Job Centre: “I was initially a bit sceptical when I heard about being paid as you learn and thought it was all too good to be true. It’s amazing what the Foundation is doing and giving someone like myself a job opportunity like this.”
Said Foundation project leader June Forsyth: “The auditions were a fantastic success and brought together people from diverse backgrounds that are passionate about stretching themselves and fulfilling their potential. The response and emails from attendees contacting us to see if they’ve made it to the next stage was tremendous and we’re looking forward to launching our first 12-week bootcamp on August 12.”
Concluded University of Derby Corporate Business Development Manager Andy Dowling: “We’re delighted to be partnering with The Bayford Foundation’s innovative programme and I’ve really enjoyed being involved in the auditions which have tested attendees logic and wide-ranging skills as well and enabling their personalities and potential to shine.”
