More tea vicar?

It was a definite case of “More tea Vicar?” when two of the region’s most influential people met to discuss ethics, doing the right thing in business and of course tea.

The Reverend Canon Glyn Evans, vicar of St Andrew’s; Newcastle’s oldest church and Nigel Smith, Executive Chairman of Ringtons Holdings Ltd are two of the guest speakers at the forthcoming “Show Your Mussel” business show which will be held on Wednesday 17th July at Newcastle Racecourse.

The show has a distinct green and ethical theme with 190 businesses exhibiting and even at this early stage around 700 visitors pre booked to attend the free event, which is organised, by The Mussel Club and Daisy Green Media & Events.

Mussel Club founder Geoff Bowman said. “ This is the third Mussel Club business show and it’s set to be the best. Show Your Mussel is about ‘doing business better’ by promoting, collaborating and giving both visitors and exhibitors a great exhibition experience.

“We have a wide variety of businesses exhibiting, chances to test drive the latest environmentally green vehicles from BMW and Mini and some excellent guest speakers.”

Amongst the speakers are Rev Glyn Evans and Nigel Smith.

Rev Glyn Evans is an established face in the Newcastle business scene. He has been voted Alternative Business Person of the Year and is regarded as one of the most influential people in the North East. He has recently been instrumental in the launch of the North East Institute of Business Ethics and his presentation will ask the question “Fun, profits AND ethics. Impossible?”

Nigel has worked in the family tea business since 1974. Ringtons is now more than 100 years old and has been owned by his family throughout that time. Their brand sold through their doorstep delivery and catering operations is well known throughout Tyneside and the north of England. Nigel will be recounting his experiences and beliefs with regard to “doing the right thing” in business whether it’s making the right business decisions for long term success, managing conflict within the owning family or giving back to the communities that have supported the business in its successful growth.

“Glyn and I have had a very interesting meeting comparing notes about business ethics in the North East and further afield too.

“We are both looking forward to meeting businesses at the Show Your Mussel event and hope that we can encourage others to be more ethical, look after the communities where they operate and do what is right for everyone.”
