Double shortlisting for SIV in major tourism awards

Sheffield International Venues’ experience at managing events and facilities has been highlighted with two shortlistings in the White Rose Awards - the biggest tourism awards in the UK.

Scarborough Spa has made it through to the final of the Business Tourism Award category, whilst previous nominee Sheffield City Hall is in the running for the Tourism Event of the Year Award for its 80th Anniversary celebrations.

Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 11 at New Dock Hall near the Royal Armouries, Leeds.

Winners of each category will not only scoop one of these prestigious accolades, but they are also entered into the national tourism awards next year.

Dominic Stokes, SIV’s events general manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be nominated for these awards. Hosting events and creating experiences that attract people to Yorkshire is a passion of ours at SIV and we’re pleased that our work, at the City Hall especially is being recognised for the third time over the past three years by the White Rose Awards.”

“The Spa team works extremely hard to deliver exceptional events for clients, which in turn significantly support the local economy by bringing thousands of delegates and partners to the town.”

As a previous winner of the White Rose Award, Sheffield International Venues has a wealth of experience successfully managing eighteen multi-purpose sites - which several national governing sport bodies call home - and playing host to 2,000 sport and entertainment events each year with a turnover of £24m.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Competition this year was so fierce that every business making it to the shortlist should consider it a huge achievement in itself as they have had to contend with some real quality competition.

“It’s always a close run thing, but there’s every chance they could go on and win one of these prestigious White Rose Awards.”
